Each month in the afternoon we offer rotating elective courses that are rooted in the natural wonders of the world around us while building upon foundational knowledge.
February Classes

Physical Education
This dynamic P.E. class is designed to introduce students to the exciting world of basketball while promoting physical fitness and well-being.
Throughout the month, students will learn the essential skills of basketball—such as dribbling, passing, shooting, and defense—through fun, engaging drills and games.
Emphasis will be placed on teamwork, communication, and sportsmanship as students work together in both structured activities and friendly competition.
Additionally, the class will integrate fitness routines that enhance agility, strength, and endurance, helping students build a solid foundation for overall health and athleticism.
Whether new to basketball or looking to improve their skills, students will have a great time developing both their basketball abilities and their love for physical activity.

Oceanography
In this exciting and interactive course, students will dive into the fascinating study of the world’s oceans.
From the diverse ecosystems found beneath the waves to the powerful forces that shape our seas, oceanography offers a deep understanding of how our oceans influence life on Earth. Students will explore the science of ocean currents, marine life, ocean floor topography, and the importance of ocean conservation. Through hands-on experiments, field studies (optional), and engaging discussions, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of oceanic processes and the impact of human activity on marine environments. This course is perfect for young explorers eager to learn about the mysteries of the deep and the crucial role oceans play in sustaining life on our planet.

Records and Ruins
In this engaging and thought-provoking course, students will explore the fascinating ways history is constructed through written records, oral histories, archaeology, and alternative narratives.
By examining how those in power often shape what is remembered and recorded, we will delve into the complex process of making history. Students will learn how archaeological finds and ruins reveal untold stories, and how personal journals and oral traditions provide unique insights into past events.
Through hands-on activities, including simulated archaeological digs, journal writing exercises, and the analysis of both traditional and alternative historical accounts, students will uncover the dynamic ways history is told, retold, and rewritten. This course will also challenge students to consider whose stories are missing from the historical record and encourage them to think critically about the history they encounter. By the end of the course, students will have gained an understanding of how history is shaped by those who tell it, and they will practice techniques for uncovering and creating their own historical narratives.

Water Color - Ocean Themed
This 10-day course will introduce students to the beautiful world of watercolor painting, focusing on ocean-themed artwork.
Throughout the course, students will not only practice watercolor techniques but also learn about the fascinating history of watercolor art, how watercolor paper is made, and the unique properties of the medium. Each class will include a mix of history, technique, and hands-on practice, allowing students to immerse themselves in both learning about and creating beautiful watercolor ocean paintings.

Household Wonders: Exploring the Science and History of the Modern Home
This class is a fascinating, hands-on exploration of the everyday objects and systems that make our homes functional. In this hour and fifteen minute long class, divided into two 30-minute instructional periods, students will dive into the science, history, and economics of household construction and operation. Each session will focus on a different part of the home, exploring the inner workings and the innovations that have brought us from basic dwellings to modern homes. Students will learn how things like toilets, plumbing, heating systems, and electricity work, while also discovering the historical development of these technologies. Through interactive activities and engaging discussions, students will gain a deeper understanding of the systems that keep a house running, as well as the economic and societal factors that shaped the modern home.

Fashion Design I : Part 1
Part 1 is the first course in a three-part series designed to introduce students to the exciting world of fashion design. This course will cover the basics of the fashion design process, from concept creation to sketching and fabric selection. Students will learn essential techniques and terminology, gaining a deeper understanding of fashion history, garment construction, and design principles.
With hands-on activities, students will begin to develop their own creative ideas and apply them through sketching and fabric exploration. Whether your student is interested in pursuing a career in fashion or just looking to explore their creativity, this course will set the foundation for their creativity and self expression.
March Classes

Physical Education
This month's PE class is an energetic and dynamic class designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of rugby. In this hands-on course, students will learn the basic rules, techniques, and strategies that make rugby such an exciting sport. Through drills, games, and team-building exercises, students will gain an understanding of how rugby is played, focusing on teamwork, discipline, fitness, and skill development. The class will include activities to build strength, agility, and coordination, all while having fun and developing a love for this fast-paced sport.
All classes will prioritize safety and proper technique to minimize injury. No prior experience in rugby is required—just enthusiasm and a willingness to learn!

Career Pathways: Exploring Possible Futures
Exploring Your Future is an engaging and interactive class designed to help students understand the variety of careers available to them, the skills required, and the paths they can take to achieve their goals.
Through hands-on activities, discussions, and guest speakers, students will explore various career options, from traditional professions to modern roles in technology and entrepreneurship. This class also emphasizes transferable life skills like communication, problem-solving, teamwork, and time management. Students will reflect on their strengths, interests, and passions, gaining the knowledge and tools to start making informed decisions about their futures.

Historic Timelines
This is an interactive and engaging class designed to bring history to life and provide a better overview of when things happened throughout time for students of all ages, from kindergarten through 12th grade. In this class, students will embark on a journey through different eras and cultures, exploring key events, influential figures, and important inventions that shaped the world. The course will combine storytelling, hands-on activities, games, and project-based learning to help students understand the connections between the past and present. Students will also have the opportunity to dive deep into historical events through exploration, reenactments, and creative presentations.
The class is structured in a way that tailors activities and content to the students' age and comprehension levels, ensuring that all students—whether they are just starting their journey through history or preparing for advanced studies—remain engaged and excited about learning.

Adobe Creative Suite: Introducing the Basics of Design and Media Software
In this full 10-day course, students will be introduced to the powerful world of Adobe Creative Suite, focusing on key tools like Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom, Premiere Pro, InDesign, and more. Whether you're looking to enhance your graphic design skills, edit photos, create digital artwork, or dive into video editing, this course is designed to give you a solid foundation in the Adobe Creative Suite.
Each 30-minute class will focus on one or two tools within the suite, providing hands-on experience with basic features, techniques, and workflows. By the end of the course, students will have gained confidence in using various Adobe applications, allowing them to bring their creative ideas to life in professional and artistic ways. Perfect for beginners or anyone looking to refresh their skills in these industry-standard programs.

Camping 101: Preparing for the Great Outdoors
This hands-on class equips students with essential skills to prepare for camping adventures safely and confidently. Designed for beginners and those looking to sharpen their outdoor skills, the course covers fire-building techniques, scouting and evaluating campsite locations, setting up camp, identifying risks in nature, and basic survival skills. Through engaging demonstrations and practical activities, participants will learn the fundamentals of outdoor preparedness and develop the confidence to embrace the wilderness.
Last day of class will include an optional camping experience. Students can invite their families to camp and share what they have learned. Extra fee required for camp spots, materials and food.

Fashion Design I : Part 2
Building on the fundamentals introduced in Fashion Design I: Part 1, this 10-day course delves deeper into the world of fashion design by focusing on techniques, materials, and personal style. Students will explore fabric selection, sewing basics, pattern creation, and the creative process behind fashion collections. Through hands-on projects and guided instruction, students will refine their design skills, experiment with textiles, and begin developing their unique fashion voice. By the end of the course, students will work on a group mini collection and collaboratively make one item from the collection that showcase their creativity and understanding of design principles, preparing them for more advanced studies or personal fashion pursuits.
April Classes

Physical Education
This Physical Education class introduces students to the fundamentals of baseball, blending skill development with teamwork and strategy. Designed for all skill levels, the course covers essential techniques such as batting, pitching, catching, base running, and fielding. Students will also learn about the rules of the game, key strategies, and the importance of communication and sportsmanship. With drills, mini-games, and fun challenges, participants will build confidence, improve their skills, and develop a love for America’s favorite pastime.

Spring Into Gardening: A Beginner’s Guide to Home Gardening
This hands-on course introduces students to the fundamentals of spring home gardening. Designed for aspiring gardeners of all skill levels, the class covers soil preparation, planting techniques, caring for plants, and the science behind successful gardening. Participants will learn to grow flowers, herbs, and vegetables while exploring sustainable practices and the importance of seasonal cycles. With engaging activities and practical applications, students will leave with the skills and confidence to create their own thriving garden.

Story Spinners: Creative Writing and Storytelling Adventures
Unlock the power of imagination in this fun and interactive creative writing and storytelling class! Designed for budding writers of all levels, this course introduces the fundamentals of crafting compelling stories while encouraging creativity and self-expression. Code Explorers: An Introduction to Programming

Young Entrepreneurs: Building the Future One Idea at a Time

Over five weeks, students will learn the fundamentals of starting and running a business, including brainstorming ideas, understanding customers, basic financial planning, and pitching their vision.
