August - B1: Intro to Sewing (SEW.B1.DZ)
No prior sewing knowledge is required for this beginner-friendly, digital sewing course. Over four 30 min zoom classes and online material, students will learn foundational sewing skills while creating their own tote bag from start to finish.
Students will be introduced to sewing machine basics, essential tools, fabric basics, cutting, pressing, simple seams, basting, topstitching, and box corners. As they work through the tote bag project, they will also learn how to think through a sewing project step by step, solve common beginner challenges, and build confidence for future projects.
No materials are included. Students will need access to their own supplies and sewing machine.
Please arrive on time for each class, as instruction begins promptly and late arrivals may miss important demonstrations. Students are expected to come prepared and ready to work.
You are welcome to bring your own sewing machine if you prefer. Sewing machines will also be provided for students who do not have one or do not wish to transport theirs.
Students are responsible for providing fabric, thread, and any required materials when requested. Specific supply needs will be communicated in advance or during class, and students should bring the materials specified by the instructor.
Regular attendance, preparedness, and participation are essential to get the most out of the class.
