Oct - C.B1 - Photography Foundations: Beyond the Snapshot (PHO.C.B1.FD.MS.DL)
Photography is more than pointing a camera and pressing a button. In this introductory course, students learn how photographers use composition, perspective, light, focus, and timing to create images with purpose. Through online lessons, hands-on photography challenges, and guided in-person activities, students will practice photographing people, places, movement, and everyday moments while learning to make intentional creative choices. This is a three-month course made up of three one-month classes:
Month 1: Learning to See
Month 2: Learning to Control
Month 3: Learning to Tell
Students are encouraged to complete all three classes consecutively, but may pause after completing any one-month class if needed. Students who pause may resume by joining the next available offering of the course within the same year, space permitting. Students may use a cellphone, point-and-shoot camera, or DSLR. By the end of the course, each student will select and refine a small collection of photographs that demonstrates their developing skills and personal perspective. *Weekly in person photography labs will be held at different locations in Salt Lake Valley, make sure to book the right class for the day of the lab.
