Stitch Your Vision: Beginners' Journey in Fashion Design & Sewing
Service Description
This beginner-level 5-week course introduces students to essential sewing techniques and foundational principles of fashion design. Through a blend of at your own pace online classes (10) and live virtual gatherings (5), students will complete a practical project—a tote bag—that reinforce the skills they learn. Ideal for high schoolers and adults. It is graded. Students can request a transcript. There are no prerequisites. 2025 Class Offerings - All sessions are the same. Do not book more than one session unless repeating. Session 1: March 26 - April 30: Tuesdays 7pm EST (April 1, 8, 15, 22, 29). Session 2: April 1 - May 5: Saturdays 7pm EST (April 5, 12, 19, 26, May 3). Session 3: May 27 - July 1: Mondays 1pm EST (June 2, 9, 16, 23, 30) Session 4: June 25 - July 30: Tuesdays 11am EST (July 1, 8, 15, 22, 29) Session 5: June 27 - August 1: Thursdays @ 3pm EST (July 3, 10, 17, 24, 31) Session 6: August 26 - September 30: Mondays 12pm EST (September 1, 8, 15, 22, 29) Session 7: August 27 - October 1: Tuesdays 2pm EST (September 2, 9, 16, 23, 30) Session 8: September 26 - October 31: Thursdays 2pm EST (October 2, 9, 16, 23, 30) Course Schedule: Every week will have 2 classes that are to be completed at the student's own pace but must be completed before the virtual gathering class. Students are expected to come to the virtual gathering class with their camera and mic on. By the end of this course, students will: Gain an understanding of fashion design history and the industry's evolution. Understand and apply the basic elements and principles of design. Create a simple sewing project to develop technical skills. Develop basic fashion sketching abilities. Course Components: Online Labs: Comprehensive video tutorials, interactive modules, and at home assignments covering sewing techniques and fashion design principles. Weekly assignments to test knowledge and build community. Students have a week to complete these assignments at their own leisure. Virtual Gatherings: Hands-on sessions where students apply what they've learned in a supportive environment. Students will continue to build their sewing community that they develop during the week with the teacher and classmates. Direct guidance from experienced instructors to help with project construction and troubleshooting. Cancellation Policy
1. Registration and Payment Advance Registration: All participants must register for classes in advance. Registration can be done online. Payment: Full payment is required at the time of registration to secure a spot in the class. Refunds and Cancellations: Cancellations made more than 7 days before the start of the session will receive a full refund. Cancellations made within 7 days of the session start date will receive a 50% refund. No refunds will be given after the session begins. 2. Attendance and Make-Up Classes Attendance: Regular attendance is encouraged for the best learning experience. Make-Up Classes: Make-up classes are available for missed sessions due to illness or other emergencies. Please notify us as soon as possible if your child will miss a class. Make-up classes must be scheduled within 14 days and are subject to availability. 3. Health and Safety Medical Conditions: Parents/caregivers must inform instructors of any medical conditions, allergies, or special needs that their child may have. Illness: Please do not bring your child to class if they are sick. Children with contagious illnesses should stay home to prevent spreading to others. Supervision: A parent or caregiver must be present in the water with their child for baby and toddler classes and must remain on the premises for all other classes. 4. Pool Rules and Conduct Swim Attire: Proper swim attire is required. Swim diapers are mandatory for infants and toddlers who are not potty trained. Behavior: Respectful and safe behavior is expected from all participants. Disruptive behavior may result in removal from the class. Pool Safety: Follow all posted pool rules and listen to the instructors at all times. No running on the pool deck, and no diving in shallow areas. 5. Weather and Pool Closures Weather Policy: Classes will continue in light rain but will be canceled in the event of thunderstorms, lightning, or other severe weather. Notifications will be sent out via email and text message. Pool Maintenance: In the event of pool maintenance or unexpected closures, make-up classes will be scheduled. 6. Photography and Privacy Photography: Photos and videos may be taken during classes for promotional purposes. If you do not wish your child to be photographed, please inform us at the time of registration. Privacy: All personal information collected during registration will be kept confidential and used only for communication regarding classes and events.
