We offer beginner, intermediate, and advanced sewing classes as well as specialty classes.

Beginner Sewing Classes (B)

  1. Introduction to Sewing (B1)

    • Getting to know your sewing machine (parts, threading, maintenance)

    • Basic sewing tools and materials

    • Simple stitches and seams (straight stitch, zigzag, backstitch)

    • Sewing a basic project (tote bag)

  2. Sewing 101: Fabric Basics (B2)

    • Different types of fabrics and their properties

    • How to choose the right fabric for your project

    • Cutting and preparing fabric

    • Sewing with woven vs. knit fabrics

    • Sewing a basic project (infinity scarf)

  3. Hand Sewing for Beginners (B3)

    • Essential hand stitches (running stitch, backstitch, slip stitch, whip stitch)

    • Sewing buttons and closures

    • Sewing a basic project (simple envelope pouch)

  4. Garment Basics (B4)​​

    • Learning how to follow patterns​

    • Seam allowances

    • Pressing

    • Sizing and Basic Fit Awareness

    • Sewing a basic project (simple child's dress)

  5. Finishing Techniques (B4)​​

Intermediate Sewing Classes (I)

  1. Intermediate Garment Construction I: Precision Foundations (I1)​

    • Fully encased waistbands (elastic + tailored)

    • Clean seam finishes (French seams, flat-felled seams)

    • Tucks, pintucks, and controlled gathers

    • Accurate pressing for professional results

    • Project: dress with encased waistband and design details

  2. Intermediate Garment Construction II: Closures & Structure (IG2)​

    • Buttonholes (machine settings, spacing, troubleshooting)

    • Attaching buttons (shank, flat, reinforced)

    • Zippers: centered, lapped, invisible

    • Facings and understitching

    • Project: dress shirt or dress with button placket and zipper pouch

  3. Intermediate Garment Construction III: Fit & Pattern Alteration (IG3)​

    • Taking accurate body measurements

    • Comparing body measurements to pattern sizing

    • Common alterations:

    • Lengthening/shortening

    • Waist and hip adjustments

    • Bust and waist darts

    • Altering patterns before cutting fabric

    • Project: altered garment that fits actual measurements

  4. Intermediate Garment Construction IV: Hemming, Alterations & Repairs (IG4)​

    • Hemming pants (original hem, blind hem, cuffed hem)

    • Hemming skirts and dresses

    • Taking in / letting out seams

    • Replacing a zipper in an existing garment

    • Repairing seams and worn areas

    • Project: alter or repair a garment from home

  5. Intermediate Garment Construction V: Special Fabrics & Layers (IG5)​

    • Sewing with tulle and netting

    • Creating and attaching petticoats

    • Layering fabrics for volume and structure

    • Managing slippery or sheer fabrics

    • Project: skirt or dress with tulle overlay or petticoat

  6. Intermediate Garment Construction VI: Sewing with Knits (IG6)​

    • Understanding knit types (jersey, rib, ponte)

    • Choosing the right needles and stitches

    • Stabilizing necklines and shoulders

    • Knit hems (twin needle, stretch stitch)

    • Elastic waistbands in knits

    • Project: t-shirt, joggers, or simple knit dress

  3. Costume Design and Construction (A3)

    • Basics of costume design
